SKINNY WATER PURSUITS OF TIGHT LINES & GOOD TIMES
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY "SKINNY WATER PURSUITS"?
We usually fish in a foot or less of water, stalking these fish up on the flats of Saint Joseph Sound and Tampa Bay. Sight fishing is one of the most exciting and effective ways to fish our waters. On our fishing charters our goal is to keep that rod bent and the drag screaming all day.
Your Captain will be on the polling platform, pushing you through the flats and calling out fish to you. "11 o'clock, 50 feet, swimming left" is a good example of the direction you will hear. Then it's up to you to make the cast and hang on! We fish light tackle, & everything feels like a monster!
FISH ON THE LEGENDARY HELL'S BAY WHIPRAY
Our fishing charters focus on skinny water sight fishing, primarily with artificial baits on spinning gear or fly fishing.
We cruise around on a 1998 Hell's Bay Whipray, hull #38. This is the hull that started it all.
This skiff was crafted by the legend Flip Pallot's hands and vision. She has been completely restored and updated with some modern comforts like Aquatraction and a trolling motor. This is one of the best poling skiffs in the world. We can get where most skiffs cannot, so it's just us & the fish.
SPIN FISHING
We use some of the best equipment around for our light tackle fishing charters. We use the Shimano spinning rods and reels. These are the ultimate lightweight combos for accuracy and power.
We use Sufix832 braid and Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon leaders on all our combos. You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you like. Just let us know beforehand.
Artificial baits are the best way to target flats fish. We use a mix of soft baits from companies like Z-Man, NLBN and Gulp. We will also use hard baits from Rapala, Yo-zuri and MirrOlure for topwater and suspended fish. We will set you up for success.
FLY FISHING
Is there anything better than landing a perfect cast and watching the fish eat your fly? I don't think so!
On our fly fishing charters we will put the top gear from SAGE and Abel in your hands. We use the new Sage R8 Salt rods which are paired with the best lines and leaders from RIO. We will always have a great mix of classic and local flies in the box to choose from.
* Your skill level *
For the best results you should be able to hit a tire size target at 50'. We use 7wt to 11wt rods based on species. Most times we use a 7wt rod.
Practice before and understand what a strip set is.
